The Holy Quran : Chapter 56 : Al-Waqi'ah (The Event)



بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ 
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

 إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ
56:1. When the Event Inevitable comes to pass,

لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
56:2. Then will no (soul) deny its coming.

خَافِضَةٌ رَافِعَةٌ
56:3. (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt;

إِذَا رُجَّتِ الْأَرْضُ رَجًّا
56:4. When the earth shall be shaken to its depths,

وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
56:5. And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms,

فَكَانَتْ هَبَاءً مُنْبَثًّا
56:6. Becoming dust scattered abroad,

وَكُنْتُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ثَلَاثَةً
56:7. And you shall be sorted out into three classes.

فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ
56:8. Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand?

وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ
56:9. And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?

وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ
56:10. And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter).

أُولَٰئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ
56:11. These will be those Nearest to Allah.

فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ


56:12. In Gardens of Bliss:

ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ
56:13. A number of people from those of old,

وَقَلِيلٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ
56:14. And a few from those of later times.

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَوْضُونَةٍ
56:15. (They will be) on couches encrusted (with gold and precious stones),

مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ
56:16. Reclining on them, facing each other.

يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُخَلَّدُونَ
56:17. Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness),

بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِنْ مَعِينٍ
56:18. With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains:

لَا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنْزِفُونَ
56:19. No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication:

وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
56:20. And with fruits, any that they may select:

وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
56:21. And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire.

 وَحُورٌ عِينٌ
56:22. And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,-

كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ
56:23. Like unto Pearls well-guarded.

جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
56:24. A Reward for the deeds of their past (life).

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا
56:25. Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any mischief,-

إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَامًا سَلَامًا
56:26. Only the saying, "Peace! Peace".

 وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ
56:27. The Companions of the Right Hand,- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand?

فِي سِدْرٍ مَخْضُودٍ




56:28. (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns,

 وَطَلْحٍ مَنْضُودٍ
56:29. Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,-

وَظِلٍّ مَمْدُودٍ
56:30. In shade long-extended,

وَمَاءٍ مَسْكُوبٍ




56:31. By water flowing constantly,

وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ


56:32. And fruit in abundance.

لَا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ


56:33. Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden,

وَفُرُشٍ مَرْفُوعَةٍ


56:34. And on couches raised high.

إِنَّا أَنْشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنْشَاءً
56:35. We have created them of special creation.

فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
56:36. And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), -

عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا


56:37. Full of love (for their mates), equal in age,-



لِأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ
56:38. For the Companions of the Right Hand.

ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ
56:39. A (goodly) number from those of old,

وَثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ
56:40. And a (goodly) number from those of later times.

وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ
56:41. The Companions of the Left Hand,- What will be the Companions of the Left Hand?

فِي سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ
56:42. (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water,

وَظِلٍّ مِنْ يَحْمُومٍ
56:43. And in the shades of Black Smoke:

لَا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
56:44. Neither cool nor refreshing:

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ
56:45. For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in sinful luxury,

وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنْثِ الْعَظِيمِ
56:46. And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme!

وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
56:47. And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?-

أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ


56:48. "(We) and our fathers of old?"

قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ
56:49. Say: "Yes, those of old and those of later times,

لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ
56:50. "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known.

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ
56:51. "Then will you truly,- O you that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!-

لَآكِلُونَ مِنْ شَجَرٍ مِنْ زَقُّومٍ
56:52. "You will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqam.

فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ
56:53. "Then will you fill your insides therewith,

فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ
56:54. "And drink Boiling Water on top of it:

فَشَارِبُونَ شُرْبَ الْهِيمِ
56:55. "Indeed you shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!"

هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ
56:56. Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital!

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
56:57. It is We Who have created you: why will you not witness the Truth?

أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تُمْنُونَ
56:58. Do you then see?- The (human Seed) that you emit,-

أَأَنْتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْخَالِقُونَ
56:59. Is it you who create it, or are We the Creators?

نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
56:60. We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated

عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ أَمْثَالَكُمْ وَنُنْشِئَكُمْ فِي مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
56:61. From changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not.

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
56:62. And you certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do you not take heed?

أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تَحْرُثُونَ
56:63. See you the seed that you sow in the ground?

أَأَنْتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ
56:64. Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause?

لَوْ نَشَاءُ لَجَعَلْنَاهُ حُطَامًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ
56:65. Were it Our Will, We could make it broken orts, and you would be left in wonderment,

إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ
56:66. (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing):

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
56:67. "Indeed we are deprived"

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ الْمَاءَ الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ
56:68. See you the water which you drink?

أَأَنْتُمْ أَنْزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْزِلُونَ
56:69. Do you bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We?

لَوْ نَشَاءُ جَعَلْنَاهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ
56:70. Were it Our Will, We could make it saltish (and unpalatable): then why do you not give thanks?

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِي تُورُونَ
56:71. See you the Fire which you kindle?

أَأَنْتُمْ أَنْشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْشِئُونَ
56:72. Is it you who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it?

نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَاهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَاعًا لِلْمُقْوِينَ
56:73. We have made it a reminder and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts.

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ
56:74. Then glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme!

فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ
56:75. Furthermore I swear by the setting of the Stars,-

وَإِنَّهُ لَقَسَمٌ لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
56:76. And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if you but knew,-

إِنَّهُ لَقُرْآنٌ كَرِيمٌ
56:77. That this is indeed a Quran most honorable,

فِي كِتَابٍ مَكْنُونٍ
56:78. In Book well-guarded,

لَا يَمَسُّهُ إِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ
56:79. Which none shall touch but those who are clean:

تَنْزِيلٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
56:80. A Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.

أَفَبِهَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنْتُمْ مُدْهِنُونَ
56:81. Is it such a Message that you would hold in light esteem?

وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ
56:82. And have you made it your livelihood that you should declare it false?

فَلَوْلَا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ
56:83. Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of the dying man) reaches the throat,-

وَأَنْتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنْظُرُونَ
56:84. And you the while (sit) looking on,-


وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْكُمْ وَلَٰكِنْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ
56:85. But We are nearer to him than you, and yet see not,-


فَلَوْلَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ
56:86. Then why do you not,- if you are exempt from (future) account,-

تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
56:87. Call back the soul, if you are true (in the claim of independence)?

فَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ
56:88. Thus, then, if he be of those Nearest to Allah,

فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ
56:89. (There is for him) Rest and Satisfaction, and a Garden of Delights.

وَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ
56:90.  And if he (the dying person) be of those on the Right Hand,

فَسَلَامٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ
56:91. (For him is the salutation), "Peace be unto thee", from the Companions of the Right Hand.

وَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضَّالِّينَ
56:92. And if he be of those who deny (the truth), who go wrong,

فَنُزُلٌ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ
56:93. For him is Entertainment with Boiling Water.

وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
56:94. And burning in Hell-Fire.

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِينِ
56:95. Verily, this is the Very Truth of assured certainty.

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ
56:96. So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme.
