The Holy Quran : Chapter 96 : Al-'Alaq (The Clot)

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ

96:1. Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created-

خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ

96:2. Created man, out of a leech-like clot:

اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ

96:3. Proclaim! And your Lord is Most Bountiful,-

الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ

96:4. He Who taught (the use of) the Pen,-

عَلَّمَ الْإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ

96:5. Taught man that which he knew not.

كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ

96:6. Nay, but man transgress all bounds,

أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ

96:7. In that he looks upon himself as self-sufficient.

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ

96:8. Verily, to your Lord is the return (of all).

أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ

96:9. See you one who forbids-

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ

96:10. A votary when he (turns) to pray?

 أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ

96:11. See you if he is on (the road of) Guidance?-

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ

96:12. Or enjoins Righteousness?

أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ

96:13. See you if he denies (Truth) and turns away?

أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ

96:14. Knows he not that Allah see?

كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ

96:15. Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,-

نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ

96:16. A lying, sinful forelock!

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ

96:17. Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades):

سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ

96:18. We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)!

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ 

96:19. Nay, heed him not: but prostrate in adoration, and bring yourself the closer to Allah)!
